Academic and Study Skills Support Tutor

Location: Flexible (in person and/or online, as agreed)
Rate of Pay: £35 per one-hour session
Hours: Sessional, as required

Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) is seeking experienced Psychodynamic Counsellors and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists to join our Training Team as Academic & Study Skills Support Tutors.

This rewarding role provides one-to-one study skills support to trainees on our BPC-accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, helping them develop the confidence, skills and understanding needed to succeed in their training.

Support may include guidance with academic writing, essay structure, verbatim presentations, organisation and study skills, as well as offering appropriate support for trainees with specific learning needs, such as dyslexia. Sessions are tailored to individual trainees and are authorised by the Training Office.

We are looking for practitioners who combine a sound understanding of psychodynamic training with warmth, empathy and the ability to encourage learning in a supportive, non-judgemental way.

Applicants should be qualified psychodynamic counsellors or psychoanalytic psychotherapists who are accredited or working towards accreditation with BACP, UKCP, BPC or an equivalent professional body.

Previous experience of supporting learners with study skills is desirable, together with an understanding of the academic and reflective demands of psychodynamic training.

As part of the role, tutors should also demonstrate an awareness of emerging digital technologies, including generative AI, and their implications for academic learning and integrity, supporting trainees to develop their own thinking while making ethical and appropriate use of these technologies.

Study Skills Support Tutors are expected to offer sessions within 7–10 days of receiving a referral during term time.

Location: Alma House, Stroud
Contract: Fixed Term – One Academic Year
Teaching: 30 × 1½-hour seminars (currently Monday afternoons 13:10 – 14:40)
Salary: £2,070 plus additional payments for seminar delivery, marking and approved additional duties.

Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Psychodynamic Theory Tutor to join our BPC-accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling.

This is an exciting opportunity to inspire and support the next generation of psychodynamic counsellors. Working as part of our experienced Diploma teaching team, you will deliver Year 1 theory seminars, helping trainees develop a strong understanding of psychoanalytic theory and its application to contemporary clinical practice.

We are looking for someone with a strong grounding in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theory, who enjoys bringing complex ideas to life in an engaging, accessible and clinically relevant way. You will be passionate about teaching the foundations of psychodynamic thinking, encouraging curiosity, critical reflection and thoughtful discussion within the learning environment.

Applicants must be an accredited psychodynamic counsellor or psychoanalytic psychotherapist (BACP, UKCP, BPC or equivalent) with substantial theoretical knowledge and experience of psychodynamic practice.

As part of the role, you will also be expected to demonstrate an awareness of emerging digital technologies, including generative AI, and their implications for teaching, learning, assessment and academic integrity, supporting trainees to use these technologies ethically and responsibly within their academic work.

Previous teaching or training experience is welcome but not essential. We would particularly encourage applications from experienced clinicians who are keen to develop their teaching skills within a supportive and collaborative training environment.

School Counsellor

School Counsellor  

£29,000-32,000 FTE Dependent on experience and accreditation

 

Are you an experienced counsellor with a passion for supporting young people? Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) is looking for skilled and compassionate School Counsellors to provide counselling in secondary schools across Gloucestershire.

GCS is a thriving charity providing counselling and training services to communities across the county. From our headquarters in central Stroud, we support people through accessible counselling services and deliver high-quality training in counselling skills and qualifications.

About the role

We currently have vacancies in Stroud and Brockworth, each offering 5 sessions per week during term time. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people while working within a supportive school and clinical framework.

 

You will provide counselling on days and at times agreed with the school, using a time-limited, six-session model with flexibility to extend where agreed by the supervisor and the school. Sessions are 40 minutes long, and each school has an agreed referral procedure and a designated counselling room on site. You will maintain evaluation records and work alongside the school pastoral team to support monitoring and waiting list management.

About you

 

We are looking for counsellors who are BACP accredited, working towards BACP accreditation, or registered with UKCP or BPC, with DBS clearance. You will have training and experience of working in a school environment or with children and young people, either as a counsellor or in a related capacity. You will also bring an understanding of young people’s needs, a genuine interest in this age group, and the flexibility and motivation to develop the role. You should work to the BACP CYP Competence Framework.

You will understand how counselling provision sits within the wider school structure and be confident liaising with teaching staff, pastoral staff and the school nurse. You will also maintain client records in line with existing procedures. Remuneration for the post is paid through the GCS payroll.

Who We Are Looking For
