Accredited Casual Counsellor

GCS provides high quality counselling at affordable cost to the people of Gloucestershire and its surrounds. Each year, we provide over 12,000 counselling sessions to children, families and adults. The vast majority of those accessing our services are subsidised and without GCS wouldn’t be able to access counselling services.

We also hold contracts to provide fully funded counselling to those who have experienced historic sexual or domestic violence as well as those whose mental health has been impacted by COVID. As a result of this we are reaching those in Gloucestershire who have often experienced complex trauma and the opportunity for them to engage and be supported in accessing our services is life-changing.

GCS is a BACP accredited counselling service and employs more than 60 counsellors and clinical supervisors. Our usual working hours are Monday – Friday with sessions starting throughout the day from 8am – 8pm. No minimum case load required.

As demand continues to grow for those that are accessing our services, we are looking to continue to grow our team of counsellors. We are looking to recruit counsellors / psychotherapists who have a strong comprehension and understanding of safeguarding, able to confidently work with identifying and managing clinical risk and have experience and / or training in sexual violence and domestic violence.

Role Overview

To deliver 1:1 counselling to Adults in-person or remotely (telephone or online using Microsoft Teams) using an open-ended or brief focused model accordingly on behalf of GCS.

Reporting to: Clinical Management Team

Located at: Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester, Tewkesbury, Stroud or remotely

Remuneration*: £25 per invoiceable session (£26,000 FTE based on 20 invoiceable sessions per week)

School Service - Counsellor

We have School-based Counsellor vacancies throughout Gloucestershire starting in September 2024 – the successful candidates will deliver face-to-face counselling within a school setting, using a range of appropriate interventions to support the emotional and mental well-being of students aged 11-18 years old.

Diploma Theory Tutor - Year 2

The Theory Seminar Tutor delivers a theory module of the course to a year group. The Theory Seminar Tutor is integral to the Diploma staff team and supports the development of trainees in their contributions within seminars, at trainee review meetings and with trainee reports. The Theory Seminar Tutor will Lead 30 seminars each of 1½ hours duration on dates and times required by GCS and be able to deliver seminars in person. They are also responsible for the Theory Module – teaching and facilitating the curriculum as outlined by GCS, drawing upon their own individual expertise and style.

FPPD (Further Personal & Professional Development) Seminar Tutor
We are recruiting for a Seminar Tutor to lead our Further Personal & Professional Development module. The module sits within the third year of our Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and aims to support the development of our trainees in their identity as professional psychodynamic counsellors. Over the three terms of the academic year the module covers the following themes:

Self, Identity and Reflective practice,

Groups, Organisations, Culture & Society

Research, Ethics, Assessment & Risk

Although this is a Tutor led module there is an emphasis based on encouraging facilitated discussion amongst the group and the Tutors role is to support the development of ‘leading’ and contributing to discussion.

Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) is a thriving charity providing training and counselling services to the communities of Gloucestershire. Our headquarters are in the centre of Stroud which has been home to GCS since our inception in 1978. We deliver counselling services both from our counselling rooms based around the county and remotely as well as training in counselling skills and counselling qualifications.
