Sarah’s Journey: Finding Strength Through Counselling

Seeking Support

After leaving a long-term relationship that had been emotionally and sometimes physically abusive, Sarah found herself feeling deeply traumatised. She recognised the need for professional support to help her process everything she had been through, which led her to seek counselling with GCS.

The Counselling Experience

Her experience with counselling was both cathartic and challenging. As she fully engaged with the process, intense emotions surfaced, making the journey difficult at times. However, despite the challenges, Sarah found the experience to be incredibly valuable.

“One of the most helpful aspects of counselling for me was simply being heard and validated.”

Knowing she was in a space where she felt comfortable with her counsellor allowed her to be open and honest about her feelings. This openness brought about positive changes to her emotional wellbeing, helping her process her past experiences and move forward.

Building Resilience

Through her sessions, Sarah discovered the importance of regular self-care. Prioritising her own wellbeing became an essential tool in building resilience, something that continues to support her healing journey.

She deeply appreciated the accessibility of counselling at GCS, especially the financial support that made it possible for her to continue receiving help. Without it, she acknowledges, she would not have been able to access the support she needed.

Moving Forward

As she progressed, Sarah noticed significant improvements in her self-confidence. She found herself making decisions with more clarity and experiencing small but meaningful improvements in her overall enjoyment of life. More than anything, counselling gave her the strength to cope during a time when everything felt hopeless.

“Counselling has had a significant positive impact on my ability to cope at a time when everything in my life felt hopeless.”

A Message to Others

Reflecting on her experience, Sarah believes in the power of professional support. She wouldn’t hesitate to recommend counselling to others who are struggling, recognising how invaluable it can be for emotional and mental wellbeing. The journey was not always easy, but it was one that helped her rebuild, equipping her with the tools she needed to move forward with hope.
