About us

Who We Are

Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) was founded in 1984 as a charity and our mission remains the same: to provide professional counselling services, supported by high-quality training courses across Gloucestershire.  Last year alone, we supported more than 1,000 individuals access more than 12,000 counselling sessions.

Our 60+ counsellors work with adults, young people, couples, workplaces and in schools.  Our HQ is in Stroud and we have counselling rooms across the county and also work online.

Contents

We are a not-for-profit charity and while we receive some grant aid, we mainly rely on the financial contribution of those who use our service. We ask those who can pay the full cost of counselling to do so (currently £55 per session). We also offer a limited number of reduced fee appointments for up to nine months of counselling.

Our Vision

A future where people are empowered to make positive change in their lives.

Our Purpose

We aim to achieve this vision by providing access to high-quality counselling services to help individuals and families thrive. Alongside this, we deliver the best possible clinical training to ensure a strong and sustainable therapeutic community that is weaved into the fabric of our county’s mental health network.

An Accredited Service

We’re the only BACP-Accredited Member Organisation of adult counselling services in the county, reflecting our dedication to the highest professional standards and ethical practice.

Our training is accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council and we are a Member Institute. This reflects our commitment not just to counselling service provision, but also to the development and excellence of the psychotherapeutic profession.

We welcome new members to our Member Institute,  please contact [email protected] with the email title BPC Member Institute to find out more details.
