BIOGRAPHY:
I am an Clinical Psychologist working in private practice and as an Expert Witness for criminal, family civil and immigration Courts. Much of my expert witness work involves assessment of those with PTSD, complex trauma and trafficking histories. I previously worked for the NHS for 16 years, including as the Lead Consultant Psychologist for Acute Care Services across Surrey and North East Hampshire. I have also worked in secure forensic services, community mental health, learning disability, and had been the lead for an outpatient personality disorder service. I deliver a range of training packages to mental health professionals.
The workshop aims to address the following:
- The link between trauma and dissociation
- Understanding the spectrum of dissociation, dissociative symptoms and disorders
- Understanding Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) as an extreme form of dissociation
- Identifying signs of dissociation
- Responding to dissociation when it happens in the room
- Working with trauma dissociation in counselling and therapy
- Exploring accessible formulation models and stabilisation skills
There will also be space for questions and answers.
The workshop will involve a combination of didactic teaching and interactive exercises in order to enhance learning.
Who is this course for?
Counsellors/therapists who want to develop their understanding of trauma and dissociation, and how to work most effectively with people affected by it, even when interventions are brief.
