Schools Counselling Service

GCS contracts with schools to provide qualified counsellors in school during term time. We have a team of qualified counsellors and therapists who have extensive experience of working with children and young people in schools. They are skilled in assessing the emotional needs of young people and in building rapport with them. Our counsellors provide a valued extra layer of support in school to augment the support provided by teaching and pastoral care staff.

Counselling can help students deal with a range of issues including:

dramatic drops in performance at school

mood swings, frequent changes in attitude and behaviour
issues around anger
breakdown in family relationships
bereavement, loss and separation
school refusal

bullying or victims of bullying
low self esteem
self-harm

Schools contract our services each academic year and we tend to bill termly in advance. At the end of each year GCS provides summary data on service usage and presenting issues.

Counselling Sessions

The usual basis for schools counselling is one initial assessment session followed by up to five further sessions. Sessions are usually 40 minutes or 50 minutes duration as agreed with the school.

Our Therapists

All of our counsellors bring with them relevant training and experience and deliver a professional, high-quality service. Our qualified counsellors commit to working towards accreditation with registering bodies and many have already gained this level of recognition.

We are proud of our BACP service accreditation for our adult service, and we plan to continue to work towards accreditation of our Child and Family as well as our Schools services.
